My current Makeup Favourites

"I think that women should wear whatever Make-up they want for themselves. Make-up should be fun" - Emma Stone

It's been a little while since I posted about beauty but I've recently made some rather savvy makeup purchases that I'd love to share with you all. This year my Spring and Summer makeup look is all about "less is more" so I've ditched the false lashes pictured above and toned down the smoky eyes that saw me through the colder winter months. My current routine has a key focus on the "No Make-up" look, a look which as we all know by now does actually require some makeup, the subtle kind. This year I'll be spending a lot less time in front of the mirror whilst still having fun with products and perfecting my most pressing of beauty concerns - the day to night transition. Because, lets face it who can resist the pull of crowded bar on a warm night? A cold beer on warm lips? Life, brimming away with possibility and promise once again? Not I

Benefit Hoola Bronzer Powder

First up is the Hoola Bronzer from Benefit, a product which I know is just far too warm for a lot of peoples skin tones but for me it is perfect. It's definitely one of my makeup essentials and it's crumbled demise is one that typically leaves me scrabbling for my wallet and keys, eager to replace and renew before the days end. For me, it's just such a versatile product, it evens my skin tone, conjures up cheekbones and even doubles up as a powder foundation when I'm fresh back from a foreign holiday, burnished by the sun. I'm not hugely into contouring, I have neither the time nor the patience for all that endless blending, so this product is perfect for the minimal effort, maximum results effect that I love. I like to apply it in a sharp line just below my cheekbones using a fan brush before blending the edges in using a soft fluffy brush. I also apply this to my neck during those awkward in between fake-tan days to limit the dreaded face to neck colour difference. Hell, I'll even brush it across my cleavage if I think that there is even the slightest chance that a quiet dinner with girls will turn into a trip to a bar and then another and then another

Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow

Following the glowy, sun-kissed theme of this post, this liquid eyeshadow is the perfect accompaniment to warm bronzed skin. I selected the shade "Bronzed Bell" as many of the other were out of stock but I will definitely be investing in more as they are such beautifully packaged products with real staying power. My usual eye make-up routine is simply  to ring my eyes with a black kohl pencil and to brush out my lash extensions with a little clear mascara but on some days I'll pick this little shadow up and glide a dab of it onto my eyelids before blending the sticky solution outwards with a small soft brush. I love how you can build this shadow up in layers as it dries, perfect for a day-to-night look. It comes straight out of my bag in the taxi ride into town after work and with the aid of a small compact mirror my eye look is transformed from subtle daytime shimmer to statement by the time I'm running into the arms of my friends on the waterfront as the sun slips down

Yves Saint Laurent, Volupte Tint-In Balm

Next up is this beautiful YSL balm in shade 01. The reason that it looks a little battered in this photograph is because it literally goes everywhere with me, in a pocket, in a bag, clutched in my hand, it's always about my person. I picked it up after the recent YSL Beauty event which some of you may have watched on my Insta-stories, I just couldn't leave without it. Obviously it goes without saying that the packaging is absolutely drop-dead gorgeous but the product itself is also an absolute dream, it smells, tastes and feels amazing, making my lips kissable 24/7. It's sheer finish is perfect for me as I tend to build all over lip colour with a pencil it's perfect for adding a luscious sheen between meetings, after a coffee-date or between glasses of Prosecco, usually drunk at a wobbly table on a cobbled street on the Barbican

Stila "Stay All Day" 10-in-1 HD Illuminating Beauty Balm

I first bought this product last year and was so impressed that I just had to get my hands on it again for Spring/Summer 2017. Again, if you are looking for coverage then this isn't really for you, this balm is more a BB cream which blurs imperfections and creates a beautiful, healthy glow on the skin. It's perfect for achieving that "No make-up" make-up look that I was talking about and again it's my secret weapon for those day to night transition as you can easily buff a little foundation over the top of it for fuller coverage. I like to carry it in my bag during the summer months to smooth on with sandy fingers between a day of exception at the beach and an evening of excess at the beach bar

Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit

I popped this palette into my basket to make up the shipping on my Cult Beauty order and I'm pretty glad I did as  for the price this is a great product. All four shades are full sized which means that they're less than £10 each. the shades "Summer" and "Moonstone" are perfect for me and I like to lightly brush them across my cheek and brow bones to achieve a subtle finish. "Bronzed" is a great shade for both shimmer and shade, it's a slightly glitzier version of Hoola, perhaps suited more to evening owing to the shimmer. I'm not one for the "I hope you can see my highlighter from space" approach to make-up so this palette is perfect for me, mostly I'll just be glowing from simply being alive this Spring and Summer. Amongst friends and ready for new adventures, or possibly from the glass of wine I should have refused but simple couldn't resist
