Springtime always has me thinking about new beginnings. In a spiritual sense it's a time to shake off the stagnant energy accumulated over winter when I've not been able to run, to row and to simply be outside with the wind in my hair and freshen up my outlook. In a baser sense this "freshening up" also occurs in my wardrobe with the introduction of crisp white shirts, jewelled sandals and a riot of colourful dresses. But freshening up also takes place around my home. The springtime spurs me into action as pictures and decorations are changed up, heavy winter textiles are stored away in favour of their lighter counter parts and pot plants are purchased in hopeful abundance. All of this contributes to an aura of calm and serene balance in my home, crucial to maintaining a highly motivated attitude
It's not necessary to spend vast amounts of money or to undertake huge amounts of work to change the entire look and feel of a space. A new vase, a fresh set of curtains or the addition of a statement print can completely change the look and feel of a room. From cosy winter comfort to a crisp neautral palette, the greatest visual change can be wrought with the most minor of adjustments to decor
Today I am focusing on the bedroom, my favourite room in the house. I associate my bedroom with a feeling of calm and peace, a sancturary to unwind with a good book and a scented candle after a day of frantic activity. This springtime I've opted for a muted colour scheme, moving away from the pops of bright pink and muted green I had favored over the winter period
The "Graph Paper" bedding is something I had wanted to add for a long time, it's statement in the most understated sense and the fun and quirky patterned cushions both compliment and contrast its minimal utilitarian presence which would otherwise prove rather cold and uninviting. In the most striking sense I feel like this room has been so inherently changed by the simple and cost-relative addition of new textiles, cushion covers especially. Linen in particular is perfect for Spring, the breathable material makes the warmer nights so much easier to bear and I've selected my top linen cushion covers from YorkshireLinenCo. so you too can create a sanctuary in your own home. So make a small change this Spring, you'll be surprised what a few cushion covers do to change your space, your energy, your outlook"
